Sequels are rarely better than the first. :B

This is a continuation of a competition hosted by :iconkryoshci: A traditional sketch competition lasting only a week so act fast before the DEADLINE this sunday 3/17 The rules are simple; illustrate a picture in PEN based on the given weekly subject. This weeks subject; emotional hands.
Taking one of struggling artist's greatest banes would be an interesting basis for aspiring artists in this sketch competition. And to do so with a show of emotion will make it all the more challenging considering there is no show of face to imply a defined emotion. No faces. No bodies. No arms, but forearms are fine. Try to imbue the hand(s) with emotion; i.e. a hand clenched tightly in righteous defiance, or clawing in the air desperately grasping for hope, or simply holding another in warm comfort.

Though it is a sketch, it is meant to be an imperfect design so a pen sketch would be best, apologies, no pencils. Since you cannot erase pen it would best befit the idea of the competition. If you need you can submit a sketch dump of pictures so long as it is all on a single page.

When submitting, it is important to keep anonymous so send a note only to the judges with a link to your submission via DA st.ash.

On monday, the judges will post a journal with anonymous links to the submissions, do not vote for your own and your votes will be kept hidden till the judges make the final call. Winner should be announced within the next few days.

The winner of this competition will decide the next topic for the following sketch competition and will be a judge rather than participant for their event.

SUBJECT: EXPRESSIVE HANDS
DEADLINE: Sunday 3/17
JUDGING: Monday 3/18

I'm exhausted... I didn't get any sleep last night and I just got back from a morning shift. I'm a night owl and generally work closes; I go to sleep when the store opens... :B What fun. Either way, I work when they need me and I don't complain. Hm, well this has nothing to do with anything but I had an unusual compulsion to bring it up... yup...

What I did want to mention is that I haven't been quite myself lately. I can't seem to bring myself to do any particular activity for more than a half hour. Anxiety, depression, eh, I don't know. What can I be possibly depressed about? A temporary loss of interest and an incapability to complete anything. I noticed this growing habit of nothingness over the past nights. I sit for hours staring at my sketchbook ripping out pages or partly finishing drawing hoping when I look back at them I would be inspired to complete them. This is where I bring out the reason for writing this; I am hoping anyone willing would like to toss any ideas or suggestions for drawings. Anything. Suggest anything. If it intrigues me I may draw it. I'm hoping this will get my hands back to working again. Hm... that could be taken the wrong way... Ahem, so, what's on your mind? What do you have for me?

One last thing, you really need to see this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-M4ht… I am serious. watch it.

For starters; my car is wrecked. It would cost too much to repair so I might as well buy another. My father says it was bound to happen sooner or later; it is an old car and has some impressive mileage. Hey, things happen. A week ago, my cat Shadow was put down. He had leukemia and heart worms and apparently mange... I think he caught mange from that damn stray that won't leave our yard.  I had Shadow ever since he was a kitten, he was the one cat I named. I miss him... I had a dream last night that he was still here and nothing happened. God, I miss him. He had the smoothest coat of my cats, what was his secret? He would roll in dirt! He wouldn't meow often, he was real quiet but when he did meow it was so soft like a squeak from a mouse. Sigh. Also one of my best friends mentioned he would be moving; he has an incredible new job offer so he had to take it. He plans to try and stop by every month but it is a long drive. We hang out every Friday night. We have been doing this for years... I don't recall, maybe six or seven years since we started the Friday thing. He isn't gone, but Friday nights are going to be a little quieter. Hm, well that is hopefully all the surprises I should expect for the year. What can I say? I am actually doing good myself, if you are worried about that.

Love Animation?

2 min read
Do you enjoy animation? What types of animation? Hand drawn, computer generated, stop animation? Do you believe an animated movie could be more than a children's movie, that it could embody the blemishes of humanity and still touch your heart? In short, do you believe that animation is art? Have I asked enough questions? Personally, I have a passion for animation, animation of all types... as long as it doesn't look lazy. I want to mention a particular man who's stories are unusually bleak despite it's rather cute style. A person who tells very human stories; Adam Elliot. I first saw his three short animated films on The Animation Show www.imdb.com/title/tt0372763/ I love those short 'toons. Surprisingly, they are all based on his life... my favorite of the short films is easily 'Brother.' You can see it here, but be warned, it is... sad... www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LdzgO…, a good few years later, my brother spotted a full length animated movie by Adam Elliot on Netflix. I watched it the next day and was... wowed. I have seen this movie well around a dozen times. I love everything about it. It is an incredible work of heart... but again... watch with caution, it is another bleak story. Mary and Max is a tale of friendship between two unlikely pen pals: Mary, a lonely, eight-year-old girl living in the suburbs of Melbourne, and Max, a forty-four-year old, severely obese man living in New York. You can check out the actual full length movie here www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKYaQK… I hope some of you will fall in love with this movie as I have. Even if not, at least respect it for what it is. Check out the movies when you get a chance.

You folks ever heard of The Goon? Ever read it? You should. You really should. Check this link and see what makes this comic so great; www.darkhorse.com/Comics/Previ… I dare you to check the preview and read the next pages... it's really witty. The cover alone is enough reason to grab this comic; there are so many stabs at the current mainstream companies it's awesome! Even the Dark Horse logo is poking fun at the awful new DC comics logo. Just to keep you all up to date, The Goon has been around for little over a decade now, it was once a small press released comic until Dark Horse picked it up and it has gained quite a reputation since; winning five Eisner Awards over the years, including best ongoing series. There is also going to be a feature length movie produced by David Fincher.

Also... FISH CANNER JERSEYS! www.darkhorse.com/Products/18-… Fuck yeah!
